In racehorses, exercise-associated sudden death – or EASD – is a very rare
event but, the miserable events at Cheltenham last November where three
horses died on the same day, drew considerable negative attention to the
condition and highlight a need for better understanding of why it happens as
well as motivating vets, researchers and horsemen to do more to prevent it.
